The photograph was taken looking North West from the parking lot of Kasalta. That's between the two tunnels going to Miramar from el Vedado, (on Linea and Calzada) a street or two to the south there's an iron draw bridge)
That's Miramar. Technically part of Marianao, now called Municipio Playa. Miramar has an identity of its own. The 5th Avenue is certainly the most spectacular drive in Havana, second only to el Malecon.
Top photograph is La Quinta Avenida in Miramar. The house at top left is located at the intersection of 10th Street. I've also heard that house was once the residence of Ramón Grau San Martín.
That's not the residence of Ramon Grau. That residence CubaWatcher was occupied by their original owners who saw the roof cave in my days on that neighborhood. I don't think that is on 10th Street, since it's at the very beginning of 5th Avenue, across the street from Kasalta. The house of Grau was bigger, with the famous patio of la Cubanidad, as he called it. He called the house his chocita en la quinta avenida. The bottom photograph shows one of the beach clubs in Marianao. I don't remember now if it is the Casino Español or another one.... The last one was El Nautico, then -going towards el Vedado, there was a string of beach clubs, El casino, la concha, el Havana Yatch Club, etc... Coney Island is around there too. Farther down was the Cubaneleco, and the hotel Copacabana.... (after leaving Monte Barreto behind, if I remember correctly) I don't have time now to google earth all of that....
The memories you brought to me. We used to go to La Concha when we were kids. There was a great restaurant that made the best pizza cubana. I also remember how sad I was the last time we were there. I was six years old and my mom said I was too old to go topless at the beach. My brother of course, could go naked, but I, I couldn't even go topless. Coño! Que mierda ser hembra en nuestra sociedad. Todos los privilegios son pa los machos!
It's next to la Concha. Actually it is between la Concha y el Nautico.... I have a good visual memory. That's all.... What you can see there (the round structure) is a bar. To the left is the restaurant, and the well, the rest is the pears and the man-made beach. Yes, those beaches are all man-made, since the shore in Havana is really rocky. For example, La Playita de 16, donde se reunian todos los Rockeros, se conoce como Rocky Beach. Ahi es donde Billy Joel compuso Rosalinda's Eyes, as the trivia of the day.
Hey, will all the Cuban doctors galloping around, "asthetic medical tourism" just might be one of those industries that helps Cuba get back on its economic feet-Plastic Surgery HMO's....
That's is la Fuente de las Americas at the beginning of Miramar's own 5th Avenue.
