The War Agaisnt The War On Terror

Fight Corruption, Fight Fidel
By VANESSA ARRINGTON, Associated Press Writer HAVANA
- Raul Castro urged Cuba‘s communist labor union to lead the country‘s battle against corruption Wednesday, saying workers are "the essential force" in fighting a wide range of vices.
HMMM….? Is Raul urging for a workers revolt? If he wants workers to fight corruption, he must mean that he wants them to fight the Cuban government because they are the source of all corruption. But No, he means more chivatos, more ratting out, more snitching, more repression, more fear.
Castro, 75, is acting president while his brother Fidel recovers from intestinal surgery. It was the first time Fidel Castro , who is 80, had missed one of the union‘s congresses, his brother said, adding that Fidel‘s "ideas, and also his teachings, were nonetheless present" at the three-day event.
Wow I wonder if they had mini-cows and Dutch cows with air conditioned helmets there?!?
"One of the most difficult challenges in this ideological work is succeeding in making the worker feel like a collective owner of the society‘s riches — and acting accordingly," Castro said in remarks lasting under an hour.
Hmm…… maybe they do feel that they are owners that’s why they take some of the assets home. Damm! he can go a whole hour without a drink?!?
"But it‘s also been due to our old and new errors," he said. "Some union leaders have not made the best decisions, nor employed the best work form."
Yes, enslaving people and exploiting them by not paying a fair wage and then, having tourists on the island flaunting all sorts of material things in their faces is probably not the best “form”
The younger Castro repeatedly cited former remarks by his brother, but said nothing specific about the health of the leader, who ceded power July 31.

Resolviendo la Transportacion
Transportation Fair in Cuba
Havana, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) The 10th International Transportation Fair starts Wednesday in this capital's EXPOCUBA exhibition center, with attendance of companies from over 40 nations.
The fair joins a revitalization process of transportation currently underway here, and will show advances for local experts to exchange experiences with foreign suppliers.
According to Maria Elena Garcia, president of the organizing committee, China, Venezuela and Russia will be present.
While Venezuela, China and Russia and the remaining 37 nations will exhibit modern modes of transportation , The Cubans will showcase ways of making 50 year old cars last forever, deadly but fuel efficient motorized Chinese bicycles , cramming into “camellos” , the ever fuel efficient “walking” and the now famous Cuban personal watercraft called the "balsa" .
The Vultures are Circling
MOSCOW, SEPT 27: With an aim to boosting bilateral trade and economic ties with Cuba, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov will embark on a visit to Havana, the first official visit by a Russian cabinet head in the past 15 years. “The visit will be of a breakthrough nature and will make it possible to consolidate positive dynamics that has taken shape in Russian-Cuban relations.
Now that there is a possibility that Cuba may be opening up its ecomomy, the new Russian mob is swooping back in like vultures to see what bones can be picked clean.
“We pin great hopes on this visit regarding intensification of bilateral trade-economic relations,” an official source told Itar-Tass.Raul , Ramiro, and their cronies are sure to get 20%
Pointing out Moscow’s close contacts with all key countries of Latin America, the cabinet official said, “Cuba remains one of the main players in the world political arena. The fact that Havana heads the non-aligned movement testifies to the fact that the country has not lost attractiveness for developing states.”We miss having a base of operations in Latin America and now that Cuba may be up for sale again…here we are!
“Two important intergovernmental agreements are planned to be signed at a time - on the settlement of Cuba’s debt to the Russian federation, estimated at about $166 million, as well as on the provision to Cuba of a new Russia’s state credit worth $350 million,” the official said. -Itar-Tass

De Guatemala a Guatapeor
From Reuters:
Havana - No matter whether Fidel Castro returns to office or not, diplomats and dissidents say the post-Fidel era has already begun and some foresee an ideological tug of war between "tropical Taliban" and proponents of Chinese-style economic reforms.¿De Guatemala a Guatapeor?
Miriam Leiva, a co-founder of the Ladies in White and her husband,
economist Oscar Espinosa Chepe:
Both see economic reforms managed by the Cuban armed forces headed by Raul Castro as the best hope for the near future, a sentiment echoed privately by many Cubans who tend to complain more vociferously about economic misery than the political system.
"What would be disastrous would be for the tropical Taliban to run the country," Espinosa Chepe said. The phrase refers to a younger generation of officials mentored personally by Fidel Castro.
To hear Cubans tell it, the list of true believers includes Otto Rivero, vice president of the council of ministers for the battle of ideas, Hassan Perez, vice president of the union of communists, Miriam Yanet Martin, president of the Jose Marti pioneers youth group and foreign minister Felipe Perez Roque.
No matter which way you look at it, it doesn’t look good for freedom, elections and democracy anytime in the near future.

More Caribbean Peristroika
From Reuters:
HAVANA, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Cuba has fired the heads of two of the country's most influential companies in a bid to bring the computing and telecommunications enterprises back under firm state control amid a national anti-corruption drive, industry sources said on Monday. Information Technology and Communications Minister Ramiro Valdes, 74, a former revolutionary hero, took over the sensitive sector that controls communist Cuba's communications, computing, Internet and software development late last month
International studies have found that Cuba occupies last place in Latin America for both mobile phone and Internet penetration, and is fifth from last in terms of its number of fixed telephone lines.
The government blames the four-decade-old U.S. trade embargo for its poor communications infrastructure. (I blame the repressive totalitarian police state)
But Cuba's 11 million people cannot buy a computer or subscribe to the Internet without a government permit, satellite television is prohibited, and mobile phones are available only for hard currency.(the Cuban people are enslaved)

UPDATE:
Obvious power consolidation by a hero of the revolution. He who controls the Propaganda sets the agenda. Read Charlie Bravo's inciteful analysis. It really makes a lot of sense and it dovetails with the American's push for a bloodless and balseroless military-lead coup.
Anti-Americanism and Darfur
In yesterday’s Sun Sentinel there was an article decrying the raising wave of anti-Americanism in the world and in the UN. The article claims that :
The outpouring of anti-American rhetoric at the United Nations this week is demonstrating how anger at the United States is uniting the developing world in a way not seen since the 1980s, U.S. officials and analysts say.
“Wow that’s horrible”, I think. I continue to read.
Leaders such as Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, Sudan's Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir and Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are divided by background and political philosophies, but they spoke as one at the General Assembly regarding perceived U.S. bullying and misdeeds.
My jaw drops. Chavez, Bashir, Ahmadinejad?
"There's a new sense of the oppressed versus the oppressor," said a senior U.S.I blink to make sure I’m awake.
official, who asked to remain unnamed. "What they have in common is their hatred of the U.S., and it's created this solidarity across Third World lines."
The fallout from the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and other Bush administration policies may be particularly visible in the new bonds between many Muslim nations and populist regimes of South America, an alliance that some call the "axis of the south."
I thank God I don’t own a gun.
This Third World solidarity also has made it easier for Bashir to block a U.N. peacekeeping deployment in the Darfur region of his country, said Lee Feinstein of the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. Bashir "has succeeded in interfering with the U.N. deployment by depicting this as an old-fashioned 'us versus the United States,' " said Feinstein, a senior State Department official during the Clinton administration. "The American ability to credibly rally the international community on behalf of the vulnerable in Darfur has been eroded by this unpopularity."
Now, why did I have to read this right before I went to bed? I have never seen a bigger example pretzel logic in the AMERICAN press. And that’s saying a lot.
First of all, Who cares if we’re not popular? Survival is not a popularity contest. I rather my American children be unpopular in the Muslim World and Europe than be popular and dead and buried.
And, if you’re on the bad side of Chavez, Bashir, Ahmadinejad, that’s good.
By some estimates 400,000 souls, human beings, sentient creatures, God’s Children have been eliminated in a genocidal orgy of torture and terror in Darfur. The UN, sits on its hands and does nothing and its George W. Bushes fault that the third world wants to back a despot Muslim murderer?
And under Clinton, when everybody loved us because we were a submissive politically correct, castrated giant. Why then, didn’t we do anything about Rwanda where almost 1,000,000 were slaughtered?
It breaks my heart and brings me to tears that the UN would rather be anti-American than save the lives of those poor people in Darfur. Not because of the anti-Americanism, but because they let people die die just because they are black and poor and don’t have a voice. And the country that is trying to give them a voice is hated because of it.
ROTTEN REVOLUTION
Revolution
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know We're doing what we can
But when you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right all right,
all right all right, all right, all right all right, all right, all right
According to Wikipedia: A revolution is a drastic change that usually occurs relatively quickly. The word revolution means "a turn around." This may be a change in the social or political institutions over a relatively short period of time, or a major change in its culture or economy. Some revolutions are led by the majority of the populace of a nation, others by a small band of revolutionaries, a so-called palace revolution only touches the ruling elite.
According to Castro: The never ending story:
My whole life I’ve been hearing about the Cuban “Revolution”. The Cuban Revolution started back in 1956 when Fidel Castro and a group of Marxists landed in Cuba on a yacht called Granma. These men took to the Cuban hills, “The Sierra Maestras” and started a guerrilla war against the Dictator in charge at the time, Batista. Batista was a corrupt thug who had taken over in a military coup and suspended elections. The revolutionaries in the hills proceeded to revolutionize revolutions. They conducted kidnappings harassed the peasants in the mountains and committed acts of terrorism in the cities. The U.S. who wasn’t too keen on having its citizens kidnapped and or blown up asked Sergeant Batista to vacate the premises. He did so on January 1, 1959 thus creating a power vacuum. Having been canonized as the next great thing by the New York Times, the Fidel , cigar in hand and white dove on shoulder, and his bearded followers came down from the hills and took over. What followed was a brutal orgy of executions and imprisonment designed to terrorize the population into submission or exile. It worked, which is why I'm writing this in English. Castro and his band of compañeros then set out to plan the Cuban economy and transform it into the a shinning example of socialist efficiency and productivity, which in English means run it into the ground.
That there should have been the end of the “revolution” since Castro brought about a total change in the political, economic and social instutitions in Cuba. But NO, according to the Cuban government the “revolution” is just getting started and its success in achieving the collective and egalitarian worker’s paradise that it has promised for 47 long, miserable years is just around the corner. Controlling the semantics in what the government calls itself is just another one of the tools to keep the Cuban people fooled into waiting for things to get better. Part of the lie. Castro’s regime has been a complete economic and social failure since its infancy, actually since its gestation since they didn’t militarily defeat Batista’s forces. By continuing to call the police state a “revolution” they infer that it is is still a work in progress, a struggle that will reap a reward at a future time. It would be as if I set out to prepare an exotic and foreign meal to my guests at a dinner party. Then, when the cooking is over and my guests are seated at the table and taste the meal, it tastes horrible, but I continue to assure them that the meal that they are tasting is still in the process of being prepared and that with some time the meal will improve. The problem is that the “meal” that Castro served the Cuban people 47 years ago has long since rotted and needs to be taken out to ashheep of history because no one can stand the stench anymore.

Guevara Economics
Case in Point : Venezuela's Oil Industry:
From a Washington Post editorial:
...Since Mr. Chavez took power seven years ago, Venezuela has mismanaged its oil so disastrously that production may have fallen by almost half, according to the estimates of outsiders, reducing global oil supply by a bit more than 1 percent. ...Chavez, who wants to use Oil as a weapon against the Imperialists north of the Rio Grande, doesn't realize that his clever scheme will misfire and fail. He doesn't have any real refinery capacity. His refineries are in Texas. In order to sell the Venezuelan sludge to the Chinese he will have to accept lower margins. Lower margins times reduced output plus subsidizing Cuba equals huge revenue shortfalls. This will not affect the US at all. It will just affect Venezuela's economy which Chavez is bound and dertermined to run into the ground like Castro and Guevara ran Cuba's economy into the ground.
... It takes sustained determination to reduce output by that much, and Mr. Chavez has provided it. He inherited a competent national oil company that produced three times more per worker than its Mexican counterpart. He immediately starved it of investment capital and dispatched ignorant political cronies to oversee it. When this abuse provoked a strike, Mr. Chavez fired the staff en masse, getting rid of two-thirds of the skilled employees and managers....
...Mr. Chavez imagines that he can damage the United States by rerouting Venezuelan oil to other markets. He fails to understand that oil is fungible: If Venezuela's crude is sold to the Chinese, the Chinese will buy less of it elsewhere, freeing up supplies for U.S. consumers....

Invitación Abierta
Hermano,

LOS ANGELES · Popeye, the sailor and world champion spinach consumer who was married to sex siren Olive Oyl and whose famous nephew is known Worldwide as Sweetpea, has died.
Mr. Popeye died Thursday, according to a family statement. The cause of death was not released, but the family suspected that Mr. Popeye recently ingested some E-Coli tainted Spinach.
Popeye burst on the scene, spinach in hand, in 1929, when he first became enamored of the fickled-hearted Olive Oyl.
He parlayed his spinach-infused strength and physique into a performing career. Popeye battled Bluto for Olive Oyl’s affection in countless big screen features .
Spinach capital Crystal City, Texas, erected a statue in 1937 to honor Popeye for his influence on America's eating habits The spinach growers credited Popeye with a 33 percent increase in U.S. spinach consumption — and saving the spinach industry in the 1930s!
Ironically, the green leafy vegetable that made him famous appears to have also taken his life.

The Devil's Devil
Two things come to mind.
1) Who wrote this? Howard Dean? Did he do the Dean Screech at the end?
2)This is the best our enemies can do? put a clueless clown up there with a Noam Chomsky book to preach fire and brimstone.
PRESIDENT CHAVEZ DELIVERS REMARKS AT THE U.N. GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SEPTEMBER 20, 2006
"Representatives of the governments of the world, good morning to all of you. First of all, I would like to invite you, very respectfully, to those who have not read this book, to read it. Noam Chomsky, one of the most prestigious American and world intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, and this is one of his most recent books, 'Hegemony or Survival: The Imperialist Strategy of the United States.'" [Holds up book, waves it in front of General Assembly.]
"It's an excellent book to help us understand what has been happening in the world throughout the 20th century, and what's happening now, and the greatest threat looming over our planet. The hegemonic pretensions of the American empire are placing at risk the very survival of the human species. We continue to warn you about this danger and we appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our heads. I had considered reading from this book, but, for the sake of time," [flips through the pages, which are numerous] "I will just leave it as a recommendation.
It reads easily, it is a very good book, I'm sure Madame [President] you are familiar with it. It appears in English, in Russian, in Arabic, in German. I think that the first
people who should read this book are our brothers and sisters in the United States, because their threat is right in their own house. The devil is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house.
"And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here."
[crosses himself]
"And it smells of sulfur still today."
Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world.
I think we could call a psychiatrist to analyze yesterday's statement made by the president of the United States. As the spokesman of imperialism, he came to share his nostrums, to try to preserve the current pattern of domination, exploitation and pillage of the peoples of the world.
An Alfred Hitchcock movie could use it as a scenario. I would even propose a title: "The Devil's Recipe."
As Chomsky says here, clearly and in depth, the American empire is doing all it can to consolidate its system of domination. And we cannot allow them to do that. We cannot allow world dictatorship to be consolidated.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): The world parent's statement -- cynical, hypocritical, full of this imperial hypocrisy from the need they have to control everything.
They say they want to impose a democratic model. But that's their democratic model. It's the false democracy of elites, and, I would say, a very original democracy
that's imposed by weapons and bombs and firing weapons.
What a strange democracy. Aristotle might not recognize it or others who are at the
root of democracy.
What type of democracy do you impose with marines and bombs?
The president of the United States, yesterday, said to us, right here, in this room, and I'm quoting, "Anywhere you look, you hear extremists telling you can escape from poverty and recover your dignity through violence, terror and martyrdom."
Wherever he looks, he sees extremists. And you, my brother -- he looks at your color, and he says, oh, there's an extremist. Evo Morales, the worthy president of Bolivia, looks like an extremist to him.
The imperialists see extremists everywhere. It's not that we are extremists. It's that the world is waking up. It's waking up all over. And people are standing up.
I have the feeling, dear world dictator, that you are going to live the rest of your days as a nightmare because the rest of us are standing up, all those who are rising up against American imperialism, who are shouting for equality, for respect, for the
sovereignty of nations.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): Yes, you can call us extremists, but we are rising up against the empire, against the model of domination.
The president then -- and this he said himself, he said: "I have come to speak directly to the populations in the Middle East, to tell them that my country wants peace."
That's true. If we walk in the streets of the Bronx, if we walk around New York, Washington, San Diego, in any city, San Antonio, San Francisco, and we ask individuals, the citizens of the United States, what does this country want? Does it want peace? They'll say yes.
But the government doesn't want peace. The government of the United States doesn't want peace. It wants to exploit its system of exploitation, of pillage, of hegemony through war.
It wants peace.
But what's happening in Iraq? What happened in Lebanon? In Palestine? What's
happening? What's happened over the last 100 years in Latin America and in the
world? And now threatening Venezuela -- new threats against Venezuela, against
Iran?
He spoke to the people of Lebanon. Many of you, he said, have seen how your homes and communities were caught in the crossfire. How cynical can you get? What a capacity to lie shamefacedly. The bombs in Beirut with millimetric precision?
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): This is crossfire? He's thinking of a western, when people would shoot from the hip and somebody would be caught in the crossfire.
This is imperialist, fascist, assassin, genocidal, the empire and Israel firing on the people of Palestine and Lebanon. That is what happened. And now we hear, "We're suffering because we see homes destroyed.'
The president of the United States came to talk to the peoples -- to the peoples of the world. He came to say -- I brought some documents with me, because this morning I was reading some statements, and I see that he talked to the people of Afghanistan, the people of Lebanon, the people of Iran. And he addressed all these peoples directly.
And you can wonder, just as the president of the United States addresses those peoples of the world, what would those peoples of the world tell him if they were given the floor? What would they have to say?
And I think I have some inkling of what the peoples of the south, the oppressed
people think. They would say, "Yankee imperialist, go home." I think that is
what those people would say if they were given the microphone and if they could
speak with one voice to the American imperialists.
And that is why, Madam President, my colleagues, my friends, last year we came here to this same hall as we have been doing for the past eight years, and we said something that has now been confirmed -- fully, fully confirmed.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): I don't think anybody in this room could defend the system. Let's accept -- let's be honest. The U.N. system, born after the Second World War, collapsed. It's worthless.
Oh, yes, it's good to bring us together once a year, see each other, make statements and prepare all kinds of long documents, and listen to good speeches, like Abel's (ph) yesterday, or President Mullah's (ph). Yes, it's good for that.
And there are a lot of speeches, and we've heard lots from the president of Sri Lanka, for instance, and the president of Chile.
But we, the assembly, have been turned into a merely deliberative organ. We have no power, no power to make any impact on the terrible situation in the world. And that is why Venezuela once again proposes, here, today, 20 September, that we re-establish the United Nations.
Last year, Madam, we made four modest proposals that we felt to be crucially important. We have to assume the responsibility our heads of state, our ambassadors, our representatives, and we have to discuss it.
The first is expansion, and Mullah (ph) talked about this yesterday right here. The Security Council, both as it has permanent and non-permanent categories, (inaudible) developing countries and LDCs must be given access as new permanent members. That's step one.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): Second, effective methods to address and resolve world conflicts, transparent decisions.
Point three, the immediate suppression -- and that is something everyone's calling for -- of the anti-democratic mechanism known as the veto, the veto on decisions of the Security Council.
Let me give you a recent example. The immoral veto of the United States allowed the Israelis, with impunity, to destroy Lebanon. Right in front of all of us as we stood there watching, a resolution in the council was prevented.
Fourthly, we have to strengthen, as we've always said, the role and the powers of the secretary general of the United Nations.
Yesterday, the secretary general practically gave us his speech of farewell. And he recognized that over the last 10 years, things have just gotten more complicated; hunger, poverty, violence, human rights violations have just worsened. That is the tremendous consequence of the collapse of the United Nations system and American hegemonistic pretensions. Madam, Venezuela a few years ago decided to wage this battle within the United Nations by recognizing the United Nations, as members of it that we are, and lending it our voice, our thinking.
Our voice is an independent voice to represent the dignity and the search for peace and the reformulation of the international system; to denounce persecution and
aggression of hegemonistic forces on the planet.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): This is how Venezuela has presented itself. Bolivar's home has sought a nonpermanent seat on the Security Council.
Let's see. Well, there's been an open attack by the U.S. government, an immoral attack, to try and prevent Venezuela from being freely elected to a post in the Security Council.
The imperium is afraid of truth, is afraid of independent voices. It calls us extremists, but they are the extremists.
And I would like to thank all the countries that have kindly announced their support
for Venezuela, even though the ballot is a secret one and there's no need to
announce things.
But since the imperium has attacked, openly, they strengthened the convictions of many countries. And their support strengthens us.
Mercosur, as a bloc, has expressed its support, our brothers in Mercosur. Venezuela, with Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, is a full member of Mercosur.
And many other Latin American countries, CARICOM, Bolivia have expressed their support for Venezuela. The Arab League, the full Arab League has voiced its support. And I am immensely grateful to the Arab world, to our Arab brothers, our Caribbean brothers, the African Union. Almost all of Africa has expressed its support for Venezuela and countries such as Russia or China and many others.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): I thank you all warmly on behalf of Venezuela, on behalf of our people, and on behalf of the truth, because Venezuela, with a seat on the Security Council, will be expressing not only Venezuela's thoughts, but it will also be the voice of all the peoples of the world, and we will defend dignity and truth.
Over and above all of this, Madam President, I think there are reasons to be optimistic. A poet would have said "helplessly optimistic," because over and above the wars and the bombs and the aggressive and the preventive war and the destruction of entire peoples, one can see that a new era is dawning.
As Sylvia Rodriguez (ph) says, the era is giving birth to a heart. There are alternative ways of thinking. There are young people who think differently. And this has already been seen within the space of a mere decade. It was shown that the end of history was a totally false assumption, and the same was shown about Pax Americana and the establishment of the capitalist neo-liberal world. It has been shown, this system, to generate mere poverty. Who believes in it now?
What we now have to do is define the future of the world. Dawn is breaking out all over. You can see it in Africa and Europe and Latin America and Oceanea. I want to emphasize that optimistic vision.
We have to strengthen ourselves, our will to do battle, our awareness. We have to build a new and better world.
Venezuela joins that struggle, and that's why we are threatened. The U.S. has already planned, financed and set in motion a coup in Venezuela, and it continues to
support coup attempts in Venezuela and elsewhere.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): President Michelle Bachelet reminded us just a moment ago of the horrendous assassination of the former foreign minister, Orlando Letelier.
And I would just add one thing: Those who perpetrated this crime are free. And that other event where an American citizen also died were American themselves. They were CIA killers, terrorists.
And we must recall in this room that in just a few days there will be another anniversary. Thirty years will have passed from this other horrendous terrorist attack on the Cuban plane, where 73 innocents died, a Cubana de Aviacion airliner.
And where is the biggest terrorist of this continent who took the responsibility for
blowing up the plane? He spent a few years in jail in Venezuela. Thanks to CIA
and then government officials, he was allowed to escape, and he lives here in
this country, protected by the government.
And he was convicted. He has confessed to his crime. But the U.S. government has double standards. It protects terrorism when it wants to.
And this is to say that Venezuela is fully committed to combating terrorism and violence. And we are one of the people who are fighting for peace.
Luis Posada Carriles is the name of that terrorist who is protected here. And other tremendously corrupt people who escaped from Venezuela are also living here under protection: a group that bombed various embassies, that assassinated people during the coup. They kidnapped me and they were going to kill me, but I think God reached down and our people came out into the streets and the army was too, and so I'm here today.
But these people who led that coup are here today in this country protected by the American government. And I accuse the American government of protecting terrorists and of having a completely cynical discourse.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): We mentioned Cuba. Yes, we were just there a few days ago. We just came from there happily.
And there you see another era born. The Summit of the 15, the Summit of the Nonaligned, adopted a historic resolution. This is the outcome document. Don't worry, I'm not going to read it.
But you have a whole set of resolutions here that were adopted after open debate in a transparent matter -- more than 50 heads of state. Havana was the capital of the
south for a few weeks, and we have now launched, once again, the group of the
nonaligned with new momentum.
And if there is anything I could ask all of you here, my companions, my brothers and sisters, it is to please lend your good will to lend momentum to the Nonaligned Movement for the birth of the new era, to prevent hegemony and prevent further advances of imperialism.
And as you know, Fidel Castro is the president of the nonaligned for the next three years, and we can trust him to lead the charge very efficiently.
Unfortunately they thought, "Oh, Fidel was going to die." But they're going to be disappointed because he didn't. And he's not only alive, he's back in his green fatigues, and he's now presiding the nonaligned.
So, my dear colleagues, Madam President, a new, strong movement has been born, a movement of the south. We are men and women of the south.
With this document, with these ideas, with these criticisms, I'm now closing my file. I'm taking the book with me. And, don't forget, I'm recommending it very warmly and very humbly to all of you.
CHAVEZ (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): We want ideas to save our planet, to save the planet from the imperialist threat. And hopefully in this very century, in not too long a time, we will see this, we will see this new era, and for our children and our
grandchildren a world of peace based on the fundamental principles of the United
Nations, but a renewed United Nations.
And maybe we have to change location. Maybe we have to put the United Nations somewhere else; maybe a city of the south. We've proposed Venezuela. You know that my personal doctor had to stay in the plane. The chief of security had to be left in a locked plane. Neither of these gentlemen was allowed to arrive and attend the U.N. meeting. This is another abuse and another abuse of power on the part of the Devil. It smells of sulfur here, but God is with us and I embrace you all. May God bless us all. Good day to you.

Time for another tax cut?
US Treasury Sets New 1-Day Tax Receipt Record Of $85.8 Billion
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. government recorded record-high overall and corporate tax receipts on Sept. 15, which was a quarterly deadline for tax payments, the Treasury said Monday. Total tax receipts were $85.8 billion on Friday, compared with the previous one-day record of $71 billion on Sept. 15 of last year, the Treasury said. Within the overall figure, corporate tax receipts Friday were $71.8 billion, up from $63 billion in September of last year. Treasury Undersecretary for Domestic Finance Randal Quarles said Friday's numbers provided a "continuing demonstration of the strength of the U.S. economy." "In fact, Friday's gross receipts were the largest in a single day in the nation's history - 20% higher than receipts on the same quarterly tax payment date last year," Quarles said in a statement.

Voo-Doo Economics or the Robin Hood Model?
Supply side economics, that is to say stimulating the Economy by increasing production and thereby the amount of the discretionary income of consumers, by lowering taxes, for example, has been a hotly debated theory since Ronald Reagan ran for the presidency in 1980. At that time, one of his opponents , George H. Bush called Reagan's economics theory "Voo-Doo Economics". Reagan was also ridiculed by Democrats and the media for saying that ultimately the average consumer would benefit by lowering the upper tax rates because of "trickle down" effect.
Democrats who are proponents of progressive taxes, that is to say a tax structure where those at higher incomes are taxed at progressively higher rates as their incomes increase, call any tax cuts that are equally distributed to all tax payers a tax cut to the rich because since the rich pay more taxes, they get a larger tax cut. Gusano likes to call Bush's tax cuts the "No Millionaire Left Behind" tax plan.
The point of the long, boring Macro-Moneterist, insomnia curing soliloquy above is to say that given the current economy, supply side ecomics and stimulating the economy through tax cuts is a model that works and ,in fact it works so well, that by cutting taxes the government can increase its revenues.
Below is the proof. So next time you hear that they should increase the tax rates for the rich to raise revenues a la Robin Hood, You tell them Zorro says that the Kensyan model doesn't work.
.Federal Deficit Running 14% Lower Than Last Year, Treasury
Says
Wednesday, September 13,
2006
WASHINGTON : The federal budget deficit, helped by a surge in government revenue, is running 14.1 percent below the pace of last year, the government reported Wednesday.
The Treasury Department said that with just one month to go in the budget year, the deficit totals $304.3 billion, down from $354.1 billion during the same period a year ago.
The Congressional Budget Office is forecasting that the deficit for the entire year will be $260 billion, which would mean that September will see a sizable surplus.
The administration is somewhat less optimistic, forecasting a deficit of $295.8 billion for the current budget year, which ends Sept. 30.
However, both the CBO and the administration are expecting an improvement from last year's deficit of $319 billion, the third highest amount of red ink in history. The record deficit in dollar terms was $413 billion set in 2004.
Even with the improvement, Democrats point to CBO forecasts that the deficit over the next decade will total $1.76 trillion as evidence that President Bush's emphasis on tax cuts has put the country on an unsustainable fiscal path.
The administration counters that Bush's first term tax cuts helped to lift the country out of the 2001 recession and provided support for a strong economic rebound that has resulted in the gusher of revenues this year. For August, the deficit jumped to $64.6 billion, up from $51.3 billion in August 2005. The federal government has run a deficit in August every year since 1954.
Through the first 11 months of the current budget year, revenues have totaled a record $2.12 trillion, up 11.5 percent from the same period a year ago.
Government spending is also at record levels so far this budget year, totaling $2.43 trillion, an increase of 7.6 percent from the same period a year ago.
The faster growth in revenues than in spending has meant that the 11-month deficit of $304.3 billion is 14.1 percent below the red ink run up during the same period a year ago.

ALL ABOARD!!
“From the ground up ... Cuba is falling apart”
Finally someone in the MSM is spreading the thruth of the “decrepitude” of Cuba, in the LA times, no less.
HOWEVER…………… the writer, Carol J. Williams, seems to sugar coats the “decrepitude” in a way that deflects responsibility away from the tyrant…….maybe.
Ms Williams writes:
“Even as its economy booms thanks to a thriving tourism industry, brisk nickel exports and cheap oil from ideologically aligned Venezuela, the social benefits are difficult to see at street level.”
HMMM? She doesn’t come out and say that this is because the nomenklatura skims from the top and the rest of the money is reinvested in the repression of the Cuban People, but if the economy is “booming” and the things don’t change at street level……. She even lets one of the captives speak for the people:
"The problem is that the government owns everything, and people only take care of what is their own," says another moonlighting cabdriver, Arturo”She adds:
“Some blame the decrepitude on the U.S. economic embargo that has blocked travel and the flow of goods to the island for nearly 45 years in an effort -- through nine U.S. administrations -- to starve Cuba into abandoning what Washington sees as a ruinous adherence to communism.Yes, they know firsthand that socialism doesn’t work!
Few Cubans will talk openly about what might be wrong with a political and economic system that even in boom times can't keep the wheels of public transportation turning or the lights on -- especially since President Fidel Castro turned over power to his brother six weeks ago for surgery deemed a state secret. But they complain quietly that there is more to their urban squalor than the embargo or the loss of Soviet aid 15 years ago can explain.”
She then goes on to describe a society that has reduced its citizens to thievery in order to “resolver” a la Les Miserables and the apathy that communism breeds:
“
Decades of stoically making do with shortages and dysfunction have engendered a paralyzing passivity among Cubans, at least about the quality of their administrators and the political system that guides them.” (that’s actually a by-product of the repression)
Ms. Williams has this to say about the Miami Mafia:
“While Cubans succumb to the daily demands of resolving their food, shelter and finance problems, their former countrymen across the Florida Straits say theyAnd this:
expect to be called on to help when the next leadership takes on the massive
task of reconstruction.”
“Cubans have been taught to fear economic overtures from the exile community in Miami, where some who lost property to the revolution nurture hopes of reclaiming it after the Castro regime comes to a close and -- they believe -- a more democratic and free-market society emerges.
But with every third family thought to have relatives among the 1.2 million Cuban exiles in the United States, the younger generation has expectations of cross-straits
collaboration.”
Yes. We are one people. And the younger generation realizes it.
Though the author doesn’t come right out and point to the regime as the cause for all of Cuba’s social and political evils, She spares us the usual MSM dribble about the healthcare and education systems, she doesn’t claim that the Miami Mafia wants to go back and claim was stolen from them and admits that the Cuban Captives realize that there’s more to their plight than the big bad USA and the embargo.
Maybe the light of thruth is finally dawning on the MSM. Maybe the train is leaving the station bound for a free and democratic Cuba and they want to get on before it leaves. ALL ABOARD, I say!

HAVANA, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Impenetrable cordons of gun-toting police and soldiers mark most meetings of world leaders, but only handfuls of nonchalant, lightly-armed cops patrol the non-aligned nations summit in laid-back Havana.
Read the rest here
First: It's a TOTALITARIAN country, NOT LAID BACK! Anyone who the government even remotely suspected of being capable of protesting was jailed under an Orwellian law called "peligrosidad" that gives them the legal cover to arrest anyone they like. Not that they need any laws, they do whatever they please with their captives.
Second: Why would any terrorists attack their funders, supporters and role models?
I can't believe the tone of this article. The facts are obvious, yet the reuter's "reporter" "reaches" to find a positive consequence to the repressive , totlitarian police state that the Cuban people are subjected to.

Test nonlethal weapons on U.S. citizens, official says
By LOLITA C. BALDOR
Associated Press
SOMEBODY PLEASE GET MICHELLE A CLUE AND A SET OF BALLS!WASHINGTON - Nonlethal
weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before they are used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday.
Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions in the international community over any possible safety concerns, said Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne.
"If we're not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation," said Wynne.
"(Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press."
The Air Force has funded research into nonlethal weapons, but he said the service isn't likely to spend more money on development until injury issues are reviewed by medical experts and resolved.
Nonlethal weapons can weaken people if they are hit with the beam.
Some of the weapons can emit short, intense energy pulses that also disable some electronic devices.

ANCA
WELCOMES MENENDEZ "HOLD" ON THE HOAGLAND NOMINATION
"I believe that the United States, Armenia, and all who are committed to human rights should support an Ambassador to Armenia who recognizes the genocide that took place there more than 90 years ago."
-- Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ).
The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) today welcomed the
"hold" placed by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) on the confirmation of Richard
E. Hoagland as the next U.S. Ambassador to Armenia based on his opposition to
the Bush Administration's refusal to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
According to the information DE FACTO received at the ANCA, Ken
Hachikian, Chairman of the ANCA stated, ‘’We join with Armenians from New Jersey and throughout the United States in thanking Senator Menendez for his principled
stand in blocking the Hoagland nomination". "The Senator's hold represents a
victory for our nation's standing on human rights and genocide-prevention", he
added.
In blocking the Hoagland nomination, Sen. Menendez stressed that, "as a
leader and defender of democracy, it is our nation's responsibility to speak out
against injustice and support equality and human rights. But if the Bush
Administration continues to refuse to acknowledge the atrocities of the Armenian
Genocide, then there is certainly cause for great alarm, which is why I am
placing a hold on this nominee." He added that, "I will continue to work with my
colleagues in the United States Senate to make strides toward ensuring that all
people, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity, receive protection from
policies of discrimination and hate that lead to genocide."
Since February of this year, the ANCA has led nationwide efforts to demand answers concerning the recall of Ambassador Evans and, later, to educate Senators about the adverse impact of sending an envoy to Armenia that has called into question the genocidal character of Ottoman Turkey's systematic destruction of its Armenian population.

Stingrays Being Killed, Possible Revenge for Irwin's Death
Tuesday , September 12, 2006
SYDNEY, Australia — At least 10 stingrays have been killed since "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin was fatally injured by one of the fish, an official said Tuesday, prompting a spokesman for the late TV star's animal charity to urge people not take revenge on the animals.
Irwin died last week after a stingray barb pierced his chest as he recorded a show off the Great Barrier Reef.
Stingray bodies since have been discovered on two beaches in Queensland state on Australia's eastern coast. Two were discovered Tuesday with their tails lopped off, state fisheries department official Wayne Sumpton said.
Sumpton said fishermen who inadvertently catch the diamond-shaped rays sometimes cut off their tails to avoid being stung, but the practice was uncommon. Stingrays often are caught in fishing nets by mistake and should be returned to the sea, Sumpton said.
Michael Hornby, the executive director of Irwin's Wildlife Warriors conservation group, said he was concerned the rays were being hunted and killed in retaliation for Irwin's death.
"It may be some sort of retribution, or it may be fear from certain individuals, or it just may be yet another callous act toward wildlife," he said.
He said killing stingrays was "not what Steve was about."
"We are disgusted and disappointed that people would take this sort of action to hurt wildlife," he said.
Stingrays are usually shy, unobtrusive fish that rummage the sea bottom for food or burrow into the sand.
They have a serrated spine up to 10 inches long on their tails, which they can lash when stepped on or otherwise frightened.
The spines emit toxins that can kill many small creatures and cause excruciating pain in humans.
Few people have died from the poison, but the spines can badly tear flesh and the wounds are prone to infections, including tetanus.
Hornby said people should treat stingrays with caution, but "there is still no need to ... kill or mutilate these important animals

Dinner is Served at "Beggars Banquet"
Condemning terrorism in all its manifestations is included in the draft final declaration of the 14th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit underway in Havana, said Abelardo Moreno, Cuban vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, in a press conference on Monday.
Five years after the 9/11 attacks against the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon, the summit's spokesperson said NAM explicitly rejects all types of terrorism. (I wonder if the guy was able to keep a straight face?)
Moreno said the fight against terrorism can not be dictated by dates, but by attitudes, policies and actions. For that reason, NAM will denounce all forms of terrorism, "independent of where it originates," he added. (read: the US's Liberation of Iraq and Afgahnistan will be condemmed as terrorism)
The Non-Aligned Movement, or NAM, is an international organization of over 100 states which consider themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. The purpose of the organization as stated in the Havana Declaration of 1979 is to ensure "the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries in their struggle against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, apartheid, racism, Zionism, and all forms of foreign aggression, occupation, domination, interference or hegemony as well as against great power and bloc politics". NAM focuses on national struggles for independence, the eradication of poverty, economic development and opposing colonialism, imperialism, and neo-colonialism. They represent 55% of the planet's people and nearly two-thirds of the United Nation's members. In other words : It's an anti-American , anti-Israeli organization.
In Cuba we have Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, Pakistanian President Pervez Musharraf, Vietnamese President Mguyen Minh Triet, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. What a place to get hit bt a Homicide Bomber. Oh never mind what I am I thinking?!? Why would they want to blow up their biggest fans and supporters?

The "Z" factor at The Herald?
Basically, they were accused of being a bunch of biased unethical journalists because they (gasp!) took money from the US Government.(read Bush's Regime).
The Miami Herald, liberal rag and birdcage liner extraordinaire, has just purged itself of some of miscreants. An Ethnic Cleansing. A Stalinist ideological purge.
First, let’s talk about anti-Cubanism, the "Z" factor, the Ethnic Cleansing. There’s something like quatrillion Cubans in South Florida. “They’re like Roaches, They’re everywhere”. And they have a lot of nerve. They don’t know their place. They don’t understand that “migrants” (we used to be refugees, now were migrants) are supposed to be seen and not heard. They’re supposed do the work that Americans won’t do. They’re supposed to pick tomatoes and clean houses and mow lawns. They’re not supposed to take over and own everything and run the place and love it so much! They’re not supposed to have political or economic power and make every white guy running for national office go to Little Havana and grovel for their votes. They’re like a damned Mafia. A Cuban Mafia. Where have we heard that before? Is this disregard from the natives earned? Maybe. Is it normal? Of course it is. It’s happened to every immigrant group. One thing Cubans are great at is taking it in stride, using it as motivation and actually having some fun with it. It’s the art of “JODER”
Then, there’s the ideological disagreement. Cuban political dogma revolves around Cuba and Castro. Cubans, having once lost freedom and their political voice are now zealous about exercising it in their adopted Homeland. Cubans were Neo-Cons before the term even existed. Social programs? No Problem. Cuba, before Castro, was more progressive in social safety net programs than the US. (assignment: please read Humberto’s Fontova’s many essays on the subject). Foreign policy wise, that’s where the real ideological difference comes in. Cubans by and large are pro-US. They don’t come here and blame the US for their problems (although they could), but no, they understand that the US is the difference in the world. Freedom simply would not exist if it wasn’t for the US. Nowhere. They believe America should stay strong and safeguard freedom and defend itself, at all costs, against its enemies. Cubans understand that the enemies of America are a real threat and that they have chosen the path of evil and tyranny and that, no, it is not George Bush’s fault that they are murderous, maniacal thugs. They love the US of A. The self-centered liberal MSM, now run by a bunch of wasted brain leftover hippies from the sixties, cannot conceive of a world where every single evil or problem wasn’t caused by the spread of the American free market system. These flower children’s ideal foreign policy would be one that would guarantee that everyone “likes us”. Cubans were noticeably absent from the recent immigration protests. Why? Are Cubans anti immigrant? No, it’s because the protests were anti-American, anti-free enterprise and run by far left organizations (commies),(I know, we see commies everywhere, silly Cubans). That’s the first Ideological scasm. Cubans actually have a Pro-American world view.
Secondly, we’re a bunch of right wing extremist, intransigent, closed mined, reactionary, loudmouthed Anti-Castro obsessed Zealots. This is a real problem for the Herald. They feel it is their mission to open up our minds and see all the good that can come by trying to understand Fidel Castro Ruz’s “regime” and all the good things he has brought to the World. So we’ve got this guy in Cuba who cons a whole country into thinking he’s going to restore democracy, and then proceeds to murder thousands upon thousands of his countrymen, steals ALL private property, tries to start a thermonuclear war, forces twenty percent of the population into exile, holds the rest on the island captive under inhumane conditions and somehow we’re crazed in head because we’re trying to get rid of him. BUT, He can’t be all that bad, after all he’s anti-Miami Mafia Just like the Miami Herald.
The Miami Herald doesn’t like Cuban-Americans. They resent their political power, their financial influence, their social outspokenness and their ideological independence. They cannot come out and call us names because their political correct hypocritical ethics won’t allow them to. They can only attack our ideas. That’s why they will take absurd and indefensible positions because they know that what is near and dear to our hearts is what hurts us the most.
The Herald can fire and hire anyone they like. It’s a free country and WE LOVE IT THAT WAY. But to insinuate that any reporter that contributes to the efforts of TV/Radio Marti to bring the Truth to the captive Cuban people, is partaking in an unethical sellout is wrong. TV/Radio Marti is providing the Cuban people with a balanced source of news and commentary. Is it too Capitalistic? Perhaps, but the point here is to provide the captive Cubans another perspective form the propaganda and lies that are fed to them by the Castro regime 24/7. The reason that this is a Federally funded program it's precisely to keep it as objective and as balanced as possible. (a privately owned enterprise would have the Miami Herald call it “Radio/TV Miami Mafia) Let’s not forget, the US in is kindness, is just trying to provide “real” news to people who can only get the “official” news. That is a public service that the US is providing to the captive Cuban population. The “official” news concept may sound appealing to the MSM, but it doesn’t to freedom loving people. Thanks America! Would any Miami Herald reporter have been fired if they had gotten a part-time job at NPR or PBS as a political pundit? Well, not if they spewed the usual anti-American Venom.
The Miami Herald is a company. Here’s the way to get back at the Miami Herald. First, don’t buy or advertise on the Herald. Buy corncob for the bottom of you birdcage, tacaño.
Second let’s all donate $5.00 to the “Buy the Miami Herald Fund”. We’ll buy the paper and re-name it “Periodico Marti”.
Why do you ask? PA JODER , I say!

The "Z" Factor
So here you have it folks, Bob Menendez, loyal, life-long, party line toting Democrat, House Minority Whip, stupendous fundraiser, Cuban-American. Bob, “Bobby” as we called him on “The Hill” was passed over to run for the Senate seat vacated by his friend and mentor Robert Torricelli. Hmm..why was that? The Democratic machine gave the spot on the ballot to Lautenberg the Dinosaur.
When Corzine resigned to become governor, again hemming and hawing.. hmm.. wonder why? Well, the Democrats with all their talk about how they love minorities, really don’t specially Cubans. Eventually the Dems relented and appointed him to the vacated senate seat , but only after Menendez threatened to run as an independent anyway. Menendez is running against and-old republican dynastical candidate Tom Kean (the 17th or something like that). And now, in a state that is totally controlled by Democrats, that votes like 105% Democratic,( depending on how many voters are called to leave their graves to show up at the polls), He’s behind in the polls. How can that be? In Jersey all you have to do to get elected is have a D next to your name!
Here we have the reason:
Form USA Today:
"I'll be blunt. It's not a nice thing to say about New Jersey, but being a Latino may be costing him in some parts of the state," says David Rebovich, a political scientist at Rider University.
Even so, some Hispanic voters think pro- and anti-immigrant feelings will play a role in the campaign. Rick Perez, a Cuban-American who lives in West New York, says many voters in New Jersey's diverse Hispanic community will vote for Menendez because of "the Z factor," referring to the last letter of many Hispanic surnames.
Read the article here.
Jersey is not the only State where people have “reservations” about voting for a Hispanic. If you recall, when Mel Martinez was elected to the senate in the red State of Florida, He received a few percentage points less than George Bush. Which means that some folks were splitting tickets because of the “Z” factor.

Churchill, Father Ed and Me
Winston Churchill
In today’s homily Father Ed was telling us about faith and hypocrisy when he took an unexpected swipe at communism. He told a story of how a visitor to old communist Poland was asked if he was a Catholic, the Pole replied “I believe but I don’t practice” as the visitor continued on his official tour he asked the pole if he was a communist to which the Pole replied “I practice but I don’t believe”.
This, of course, immediately made me think of Cuba.
Recently, people here in US have been clamoring for Cuba’s oppressed populace to rise up and go up against the Cuban military and get slaughtered. For the ordinary Cuban, everyday life is an unimaginable struggle. They go up against this totalitarian system everyday to survive. It’s hard to survive when every single institution in your world exists to subjugate and crush your will, to tear your family apart, to dictate what you must do every single minute of your day and to terrorize you into submission.
They live and breathe the gospel of envy. They suffer the hunger and destruction brought about by the philosophy of failure. They are bombarded by constant hate-filled propaganda that comes from the creed of ignorance and they quietly share their misery with each other.
But these already brave people who keep fifty year old automotive relics running, who make homemade satellite dishes, know how to survive. They know how to bide their time. And when the time is right, they will surprise the world. They have been practicing something that they don’t believe in. Soon they will practice what they believe and make believers out of the rest of the world.
