Peace Out

This following e-mail was very popular earlier this year. You’ve probably seen it, if you haven’t, well, here it is-courtesy of Nobel Laureate and Internet Inventor Al Gore.

It’s a tale of two houses.

I, personally, being from Misuri, Cuba, don't like making inconvenient assumptions and don't automatically believe everything I'm told, but this e-mail seems to have been
verified as authentic by Urban Legend busting Snopes.com.

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets
goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
Wow.

The obvious conclusion is that Gore should have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Hypocrisy. Wait! Never mind, they euphemistically call that prize the Nobel Peace Prize now.

Secondly, Dubya is a little too extreme. What’s up with purifying waste water in underground purifying tanks? Too bad he isn’t as committed to wiping out terrorism as he is to saving the planet. By the time the Islamofacists and their allies get through with it, it may not be worth saving.

Why are you so angry against Gore? The last time I checked being a hypocrite is part of being in the government. Many Cubans, including my own family members support the embargo, and Bush's restrictions, which include not being able to visit our own family members, and limiting money yet send them money and try to go see them. We treat China completely different under the same guises. My Chinese friends can visit their family. I have never seen my Cuban cousins. At the same time not supporting help for Haiti who has been in a civil war for over six years and people are literally dying to get into the United States which limits the amount of Haitians in to the US by 675 a year, while 20,000 Cubans are the "limit" allowed in the US a year. Is hypocrisy bad? Yes, but understand it is also a human attribute. Kissinger also won the Nobel Peace Prize and he bombed Cambodia and is wanted in at least three countries for international war crimes.

No, my family did not make fritas....but my great uncle spent twenty years tortured in jail under Castro so it's not like I am naive about the world. I like reading you, but sometimes you...you need to understand that the left of the US is not against Cubans just like the right isn't for Cubans. Neither care about us.

you made feel horrible for making the frita crack. please accept my appology.Seriously, I don't hate Gore, but I don't think he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. He's a goofball for pete's sake. I certainly would agree that most Americans whether right or left don't care about Cuba, but I do think it's pretty evident that the left hates Cuban Americans-unless I'm missing something.Anyways, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
